Argentine giants River Plate have emerged as favourites to sign Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez this summer as revealed by Italian publication Calciomercato. It was reported that River Plate could be the next destination for Luis Suarez who has a few weeks left on his Atletico Madrid contract. The Uruguayan footballer would be available as a free agent when his current deal with his Spanish team expires this month. Suarez has been at Atletico Madrid since his transfer from La Liga rivals Barcelona two years ago. He fired Atletico Madrid to the La Liga title in his first season at the club having been forced out of Barcelona. The Spanish capital club were said to have paid around €6m for his signing.

River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo recently revealed that he has spoken to Luis Suarez about a possible move to the club as monitored by media outlet Mundo Deportivo. He talked about the Uruguayan in his post-match interview after the draw with Atletico Tucuman. Gallardo said he called Suarez to know his plans after leaving Spanish team Atletico Madrid this summer and that if he wants to come and experience Argentine football at an institution like theirs.

Gallardo said it’s impossible to speak more on the situation if one is not certain if it can go beyond interest. He went on to add that patience is key as they have to wait for Suarez to examine his situation. The River Plate boss disclosed that the situation regarding the former Ajax Amsterdam star and his situation is not up to them as the decision rests solely with the player.
