Suarez Yet To Score CL Goal In One Year

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez is yet to score his first Champions League goal in one year. The Uruguayan is needed when the Catalan side hosts Chelsea in the return leg fixture of the Champions League. The knockout game is one that promises to be exciting, with lots of sentiments involved. However, Barcelona might not hope on Suarez to score because he hasn’t in the past one year.

Suarez is yet to score in his last nine games in the competition. He last scored in the famous 6-1 comeback victory over Paris St Germain on March 8, 2017. While he has been impressive in league outings last term and this term, he has not been able to replicate such in the continental tournament.

Juventus stopped him over both legs before they saw out the La Liga side last year. Sporting CP, Olympiakos and Juve have also stopped the former Liverpool man from scoring over both legs each time. Though the whole Barcateam seem to have struggled a bit in the continental competition in terms of relative number of goals, Suarez has led the attack line yet ended up barren till date.

His teammate Lionel Messi has had to fill in with four goals while Lucas Digne and Ivan Rakitic added one apiece. With Andres Iniesta only just recovering in tome for the Chelsea game, Suarez would need to be at his best so the goalscoring efforts do not lie solely on Messi.

Philippe Coutinho is cup-tied and a few other players are battling fitness issues. Coach Ernesto Valverde would need to get his tactics right to see off a hungry Chelsea side.
